Transport Plus was founded in 1997.

We started with one van. Transport Plus had the authority through the Public Service Commission to transport people who are 60yrs and older, visually impaired and children 16yrs and younger. Later, disabled persons were added. At that time we contracted with the City of Lincoln to participate in the handivan brokerage program. We are able to transport throughout Nebraska. Most of our activity is in the Lincoln area.

We now have nine vans in the fleet. We operate six days a week, closed on Sundays. We run with three or four vans on Saturday because of a lower demand. Five of our vans are wheelchair accessible.

We have been involved with the Community Medical Transportation Task Force for several years. There has been a group effort to try to solve some issues the public faces concerning transportation. The Task Force has come to the realization that there are enough providers in Lincoln. The problem we all face is keeping it affordable. We feel affordability is a key issue with the next being hours of operation.

We have contracts with Nebraska Health and Human Services and the City of Lincoln. We participate in the "Give-a-lift" program that provides discount transportation to those that are visually impaired. We also provide transportation for some assisted communities, nursing homes, as well as individuals living independently in the community.

We operate on an appointment basis. People must call ahead of time to reserve a pick up time. People can call up to a month in advance or as early as the day before. It is a first come, first serve system. If the time they want is full, we can offer an alternative time slot. If that does not work, we can refer people to Madonna if it is a medical appointment, to Startran if it is appropriate or to the local cab company.

We feel Transport Plus is a key player in the transportation system of Lincoln and surrounding areas. Over the past eight years, we have steadily grown and continue to help fill the needs in the community. We are willing and able to grow as needed.

We provide an excellent service with clean vans, non-smoking environment, our drivers get out and assist the clients, and most importantly, we operate ON TIME.
